What is IUL?
Indexed universal life insurance (IUL) is permanent life insurance that offers death benefit protection when death occurs. What differentiates IUL from other permanent life insurance policies is the way interest is credited to the policy.
Index allocation and credits
When premium is allocated to a particular index section, an index segment is credited and an index period begins. In addition to offering a traditional declared interest rate, IUL also offers the ability to earn interest that is linked to the movement of a selected underlying stock market index over a specific period of time.
Key points
- The interest credited will never be less than 0.25%
- The premiums are not invested in stocks, bonds or equity investments
- Dividends on the stocks that make up each index are not included on the index performance
- The premium allocation to an index selection does not represent an investment in any index or market
Does diversification apply to life insurance?
Yes, diversifying your allocations within an indexed universal life (IUL) policy may help reduce minimum-interest crediting periods
Diversification may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about life insurance, but it has a place when it comes to deciding where you allocate your premium dollars among the available crediting options in an IUL policy.

Family firstLife insurance isn’t just for the breadwinners. It’s a crucial piece of the puzzle for any family’s financial plan.

Childcare concernsWhen it comes to childcare alone, costs can soar up to $36,000 per year per child.1 That’s a significant figure for your clients to consider when planning their family’s future.

Full costThink about all the duties a stay-at-home parent handles— from childcare to meal prep and everything in between. When you add it all up, the annual value of these responsibilities can reach a whopping $133,440!2 Protecting the value of these contributions can be just as important as protecting a working spouse’s income.
